Our Mission
Omid’s mission is inspired by our pride in the Iranian people’s past and our faith in their future.
Recognizing Iran’s rich historic, cultural and humanitarian legacy, Omid draws upon the spirit and strength of the Iranian people to empower Iran’s civil society so that future generations may have the opportunity to flourish and prosper and so that Iran can assume its proper place in the community of nations.
Formed in response to the grave economic, cultural and political crises facing the Iranian people, Omid is founded on the belief that all Iranians, each and every generation, have a duty and obligation to protect and conserve the price of Iran’s ancient traditions and heritage: standards of justice, generosity, beauty and compassion that enrich and invigorate human civilization.
It is from the faith and the courage invested in Iran’s past, and conserved in the fabric and foundation of each and every family, that Omid derives its name, defines its mission, and offers its promise: hope for future generations.
Omid supports all peaceful and constructive exchanges–diplomatic, humanitarian, cultural and scientific—which promote good will and restore trust between the Iranian and American people. Omid seeks to advance the well being of the Iranian people, with particular emphasis on civil and human rights, economic prosperity, culture, education and health.
Recognizing the global reach of the Iranian people, we seek to enrich and deepen the bonds of faith and friendship binding us to our ancestral and adopted homelands and communities in the United States, Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia.
We welcome all friends of Iran’s dynamic and vibrant civil society, be they individuals or organizations, to join their hands and hearts to secure a better and brighter future for Iran, its people, and the world community.
We believe and defend the human and civil rights of the Iranian people as enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations. We stand firmly against the use or threat of force against the Iranian people.
Our creed is distilled in the verses of Hafiz of Shiraz, Iran’s beloved poet:
Plant the tree of friendship for it brings boundless joy
Uproot the sapling of enmity for it summons countless sorrows.
Omid is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit 501 (c) (3) charitable organization headquartered in the United States. It is not affiliated with any political or religious group.
